When we revamp our garage flooring, the hope is that it lasts for as long as we expect it to. As we know, though, our garage floor can get pretty beat up from regular wear and tear.
Thankfully, there are ways to protect your garage floor any time of the year. Keep reading to find out how.
Garage Floor Tiles
Protect your garage floor with tiles made of rubber or plastic. Their interlocking shapes make them easy for you to install. Then, you can swap them out when they become too sullied.
Other than being low maintenance, garage floor tiles come in many colors and prints. With the ability to layout your own design, your garage flooring will never be boring.
Best of all, it’s a less expensive option if you weren’t planning on getting a garage coating.
Garage Floor Mats
Another more affordable option would be garage floor mats. Like tiles, garage floor mats or coverings are easy to install. They not only protect your garage floor from oil spills, but they’ll absorb other liquids as well.
Rugs, trays, and parking pads are similar alternatives to mats. They all protect your garage floor from oils, chemicals, and stains. With regular usage, though, you may need to replace these mats frequently.
Epoxy Flooring Vs. Polyurea Flooring
Rather than a quick fix-it like tiles or mats, maybe you’d prefer a more permanent solution. If so, look no further than a garage coating.
When looking into options to protect your garage floor, you’ll probably come across something called epoxy coating.
Even though epoxy flooring is one of the best-known types of garage flooring, it pales in comparison to polyurea flooring. When applied to a properly prepared surface, polyurea creates an amazing bond to the concrete.
Another perk of polyurea is that it dries quicker. This means there’s a smaller chance that bubbles will form. It doesn’t allow stains and mostly resists scrapes and high temperatures. Polyurea also protects against most common household chemicals.
Epoxy flooring, on the other hand, does not stand up well to sunlight. In the summertime or after prolonged exposure to the sun, you may find that your epoxy coating starts to yellow.
Polyaspartic Flooring
Polyaspartic coating (which is a type of polyurea) is another type of reliable and professional-grade garage coating.
What’s unique about it is its ability to protect against ultraviolet (UV) damage. Given this durability, it’s much more likely to protect your garage floor from cracks, discoloration, and fading over time.
If your garage sees regular usage, this is a great choice because it lasts a long time. You won’t see as much of an accumulation of dust. What dust does accumulate will not be too visible on its speckled surface.
