Are you looking to install a new floor coating in your garage? Do you want to enhance the aesthetic of your garage with a new coating system? If so, then you need to learn all about proper floor coating preparation.

Doing so can ensure the best results for your project. Once you bring us in, you’ll have a garage floor coating that resists stains, holds up against extreme temperatures and prevents many forms of chemical corrosion. Just prepare for the installation and reap the rewards!

See below for an in-depth guide on how to prepare your floor coating for your garage.

1. Remove All Clutter

First things first. For us to install a strong garage floor coating, we’ll need a blank canvas to work with. That means that you’ll need to remove all of the belongings from your garage.

Any item that touches down on the floor needs to be removed. You might consider storing it in a storage unit for a few days, as the floor coating takes 24 hours to dry, but we recommend anywhere from 48 to 72 hours before allowing heavy traffic on it.

You don’t have to remove any shelves. However, you may want to remove any loose-hanging items so that they don’t accidentally fall while the coating is drying.

2. Protect Your Valuables

Depending on how you use your garage, you may have more valuables that you wish to protect. For example, those that use it as a man cave probably have commemorative or nostalgic items.

While most people would simply cover these items, we recommend that you remove them from the garage until the floor coating is completely installed.

Some items aren’t replaceable, so you’ll want to go the extra mile to protect them. If they aren’t in the garage, then they won’t gather dust, dirt, etc. while we install the new floor coating.

3. Clean the Surface

As you might imagine, you don’t want your new floor coating to be installed on top of dirty cement. It could cause the floor coating to bubble, peel, or crack. In other words, you’d be sabotaging your floor coating from the start.

You’ll want to clean your floors thoroughly. First, run through the floor with a broom and dustpan. Grab a vacuum and suck all of the buildups in those tricky corners.

Next, grab a stiff brush and degrease the floor; scrub away at all of the stained areas as much as you can, then let the solution sit for 10 minutes. Use a garden hose to wash away the solution, then give the floor ample time to dry before we install the new floor coating.
